Guest Post and Giveaway: "Hunger" by Felicity Heaton

Introduction to the Vampires Realm series by Felicity Heaton

It’s great to be here at Underworld Love Addiction today as part of the Hunger Virtual Book Tour celebrating the release of the latest book in my Vampires Realm series of paranormal romance novels.

Today, I’m going to be introducing you all to the Vampires Realm romance series.

But before we get to the main event, I want to introduce myself. I’m a British paranormal romance author and a New York Times and USA Today best-seller. I have been writing since 2005, and went indie in 2006. I love to write big worlds, populated by vampires, shifters, demons, fae and angels, and I have several series. This tour is about the Vampires Realm series, which focuses on the world of the seven pureblood vampire families of Europe, the werewolves fighting for their freedom, the weakling vampires, and the vampire hunters determined to destroy them all.

Now, on with the show…

I’m never sure where to begin when I have to talk about the world of my Vampires Realm series. It seems so huge and daunting, and I don’t want to miss anything.

The Vampires Realm series is a work of passion for me. It’s the darkest and deadliest world of vampires that I write, and it’s also the original world. I began this series back in 2007 with the Prophecy Trilogy. At the time, I was only going to write those three long novels but as I worked on them, I realised that I had built such a beautifully detailed world and had found many other characters in the books that I wanted to write stories for too. There are several other stories woven into the Prophecy Trilogy, some of which I have since written.

Everyone who knows me knows that I adore writing dark vampires, ones who will kill without apology and see humans as a food source. I enjoy exploring their darker nature, the side of their legend that a lot of authors tend to avoid in favour of a lighter kind of vampire (those who like bagged blood, abstain completely, or possibly sparkle). Like my vampires, I make no apologies for their behaviour. They fight, they love, they kill, and they do what they must to survive.

In the series, seven separate bloodlines share Europe, and sometimes cities (but never willingly and never without some serious confrontations). Each has a long bloody history with the others and all have been involved in wars with each other throughout the millennia. They are territorial and more often than not at least two bloodlines are at each other’s throats. Despite the battles that often rage between their families, humans are for the most part unaware of the existence of vampires. Only those unfortunate enough to find themselves on the menu or those who have survived an encounter and become a vampire hunter know of them.

There are vampire hunters in the world of the Vampires Realm series, and while most of them aren’t a threat to the vampires of the seven pure bloodlines, there are some organisations that are on the rise and are becoming worthy of the attention of their nocturnal adversaries.

But vampire hunters and other bloodlines aren’t the only enemies the vampires in my series face. There are the free werewolves too, those who have escaped or avoided the compounds owned by the bloodlines, as well as witches, demons straight out of Hell and even angels.

The world of the seven pure bloodlines is dark and deadly, and the lives of the vampires are complicated by hierarchies, rules and laws that spell certain death to anyone who dares to break them by falling in love with a human, werewolf or a vampire from another family. But it doesn’t stop these passionate creatures of the night from following their hearts, fighting for their love, and taking on the world to claim their forever after.

The world of Vampires Realm is so vast that I can only touch on it in this post, but as the Hunger Virtual Book Tour progresses, I will be talking about elements of the world in more detail, as well as interviewing the hero and heroine of the novel, and sharing excerpts with you all.

I hope this post has given you some insight into the series, and that you’ll join me on the tour. If you can’t wait, you can find out more about the series, the books and the characters at my website:

Hunger (Vampires Realm Romance Series Book 8)
Felicity Heaton
Betrayed by one of her own and turned into a vampire, hunter Eve is consumed by her hunger for vengeance and has spent five years surviving hell, driven to take the life of the man she once loved. But just as she is about to close in on the hunter-turned-vampire, an event is set in motion that threatens to see him slip beyond her grasp forever—the leader of her bloodline has sent an escort to bring her to the family’s mansion. To a nest of the very creatures she once hunted and loathes.

A vampire assassin hardened by centuries of service, Tor is a man of discipline and loyalty, never straying from his mission or the rules set out for him, and has purged all his weaknesses, including his emotions.

But the moment he meets the broken, fiery female he is to escort to Oslo, something dangerous awakens in him, something possessive and powerful, and when he is pulled into a deadly game of cat and mouse with the man who betrayed her, Tor discovers he will do anything to protect the woman slowly claiming his heart and give her the vengeance she desires—even break all the rules.

Can Eve embrace her new vampire nature in order to have her revenge and find a reason to live again in Tor? Can Tor and Eve stop the man who betrayed her and the deaths of thousands of innocents? Or will he succeed in creating a new army of hybrid vampires who will rise up against the purebloods?

Hunger can be read out of order with the rest of the series and is available from Amazon Kindle, Kobo Books, Barnes and Noble Nook, Apple iBooks stores and other retailers. Also available in paperback. Find the links to your preferred retailer at:

Excerpt From "Darkness Falls" by Erin Kellison:

“It’s not my first time, man.” Interview over, Rook shrugged into his trim black wool coat. “I know what to do if I spot a likely target.” It’d been a few years, but what to look for hadn’t changed.

Innocent, unsuspecting fools.

Yeah, he knew how to find them. And once down the rabbit hole, there was no coming back again. Just a screaming fall into a darkness as infinite and clutching as a nightmare. No waking up, either.

God, why couldn’t he just wake up?

“Only, it’s been a while since you went hunting,” Coll observed, that level gaze assessing, always measuring, but giving away nothing. “Why the sudden change?”

Rook kept his reasons for going to himself; he didn’t owe Coll explanations. Not anymore. What did he know, anyway? Coll had an easy life working behind a desk, occasionally flying out somewhere, and getting himself a swank room from which to monitor at a distance. It was hard not to stare at the wall-to-wall view of the San Diego Bay—and the ocean beyond, vast and calm, restful. Rook wasn’t one to give in to envy, but a little peace would go a long way right now.

“It’s a big step backward from the work you’ve been doing,” Coll pressed.

Rook exchanged his wallet for the one waiting on the tray that Coll had provided—time to become, let’s see, Michael Reese; at least they’d kept his initials—and slid it in the back pocket of his jeans.

Of course, he could’ve explained to Coll that he’d been on the inside too long. That he had to get a taste of the virgin experience again to keep his edge. Any Chimera could relate.

But he was too far gone for easy lies.

Darkness lurked at the edges of his vision, crackling and dense with reproach—not that he could make out anything right now, or ever—but when he turned to confront it, the blind spot shifted, too. It was as if he had a fringe space in the back of his mind, one in which an intruder could hide, its presence hounding him like a constant uncertainty.

Rook had to go out or he’d lose his mind. He had to go out or Coll would have to put him down like a mad dog.

The alternate phone on the tray was a sleek little silver thing, the latest to hit the market, whereas his personal mobile was at least a year behind. Both were unnecessary. He had other ways of keeping current—other, more intimate ways to track his marks.

“You could shave, at least. Make yourself pretty.” Coll’s idea of a joke.

Since he’d decided to back off, Rook offered a dry one of his own. “Girls like me rough. Guys, too, actually.”

Highlights from J.R. Ward's Q&A at Cincinnati signing today

Here are a few highlights from J.R. Ward's Q&A at today's Cincinnati signing.
Warning: There are a few spoilers if you haven't read "The King" yet.

The next book will be The Shadows and will be about Trez and iAm.
We have not met iAm's mate yet.
There will be a new series.  Not a spin-off of BDB.  She did not say what it would be.
iAm will have sex in the next book.
Still only anticipating one book per year even though Fallen Angels is ending.
We will see more of Murhder and Aggie.
Lucas will end up with someone, not Abalone's daughter.
She wants there to be more for Z than where he is now but she doesn't know what it could be yet.
JM will become a brother.
She doesn't see JM figuring out that he's Darius.
Ward has next 3 books planned.
Something dire has to happen to bring Scribe Virgin back, but she will be back.  Her role and world have changed for now.
Mary and Rhage are having a kid... probably.
The S'hile Queen is pregnant, by S'ex.
Selena has a disease of The Chosen, a genetic mutation from limited gene pool.
Lassiter will have his own book
Sola and Assail will get back together.
Assail's twin brothers will get mate's too.
The series is still open, no end in sight.
Best scene to come with Sola's grandmother will be her cooking with ghost peppers and the twins eating raw peppers... she'll know somethings not right.
Assail is selling drugs to the enemy which puts him in a difficult spot.
Lessers getting money banked up.
Manny will never be turned.
Butch and Jose will get closure... has to do with the lesser Xcor killed and left in alley which was then found by humans.
She has a feeling the BDB mansion could get raided.
Creator in the Fallen Angels series is the father of the Scribe Virgin and the Omega.
Payne can't fix Wrath's eyesight.
Still won't say what was in the lock box that was found when they rescued Lucas from the barrel.
Speculated if Wrath's blindness is due to inbreeding (small gene pool for glymera) or due to Anha's poisoning while pregnant.
Last scene of Immortal (Fallen Angels series) will show Lassiter's purpose.
Payne will still always be able to go up and recharge in sanctuary to keep Manny preserved.
Moors versus Shadows versus s'Hisbe are all the same, just different cultural names.
Something from Lover Reborn was single most important thing for Xcor.
Scene between Wrath and Thor that we don't see... she said was too personal to write, she didn't want to intrude.
Throe's sister is lynch pin about which two characters spin... they are linked to her.
Autumn (No 'One) is not Throe's sister.
Glymera not happy with their forced retirement.
Will see more of Rehv and Ehlena in the future.
Qhuinn and Blay will get their names on each other's backs.
No BDB movies in the works.
Xhex is one of her favorites.
Abalone's daughter will get a mate but doesn't know who yet.  She will be adopted by the BDB like a little sister.
Payne's ability is going away, possibly permanent.
Assail is a pure vampire.
As Xcor is softening, Throe is building up and it's making her nervous.
The Chosen are fluctuating between the sanctuary and the camp.
If Wrath died, Butch would be next in line according to old laws.
Lash will be back.  His girlfriend is Devina from Fallen Angels series!
We've already met Saxton's HEA and it's not iAm or Lassiter.

Giveaway and Spotlight: "Vampire's Hunger" by Cynthia Garner

VAMPIRE’S HUNGER  by Cynthia Garner (Release date: April 1, 2014)

In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, civilization no longer exists, and only the strongest survive. The few remaining humans must band together with supernatural beings to battle unspeakable evil-or all hope will be lost.
Kimber Treat is an ordinary woman with an extraordinary gift: she can raise the dead. As a necromancer who works with the police, she communicates with murder victims to bring their killers to justice. But after a normal session goes horribly wrong, Kimber realizes she's summoned something dark and sinister. She's unwittingly unleashed the apocalypse, and everyone blames her…except Duncan MacDonnough, the devastatingly handsome vampire she can't stop fantasizing about.

As society shuts down and flesh-eating hordes close in, Duncan vows to protect Kimber. He can keep her safe from others-but not from the insatiable carnal hunger he feels for her. Now racing to reverse the chaos she's unleashed, Kimber can't afford any distractions. But even as she succumbs to Duncan's seduction, she fears that he has a hidden agenda. And with the line between life and death starting to blur, his secrets might kill her-or worse

“What are you thinking?” Aodhán set his sword on the table and rested one brawny forearm along the back of the couch.
She pinched the bridge of her nose and blew out a breath. “What I’m always thinking about,” she whispered. “Them. And that it’s all my fault.”
“Do I have to tell you again what I’ve been telling you for six months, mo chara?” He leaned toward her and took her hands in his. His callused palms were warm against her skin. Aodhán had become her confidant, in spite of the fact he was buddies with a certain irritating vampire, and had taken to calling her “little friend” in his lovely lilting Irish Gaelic. Usually it served as a balm to her battered nerves. But tonight…not so much.
She didn’t need him to repeat the meaningless words. “No, because it didn’t happen to another necromancer, Aodhán,” she said. “It happened to me.” She pulled her hands away from his and stood up. She started to pace. “And I should’ve known…”
When she didn’t go on, he prompted, “You should have known what?”
She pressed her lips together and plopped sideways into the oversized recliner, letting her legs dangle over the padded arm. “There was something different about the Unseen that night. It seemed to…reach for me.” She met his bright blue eyes. “It’s never done that before. Maybe if I’d stopped, if I’d aborted the ritual…” She huffed a sigh and shook her head. “I dunno. I should’ve done anything different than what I did, which was just plow right ahead because I had a job to do. A reputation to maintain.”
He rested his ankle across the opposite knee and stretched both arms along the back of the sofa. “Hindsight is always the clearest. You had no way of knowing what would happen.” He leaned forward, his gaze somber. “And all the coulda-shoulda-wouldas in the world won’t change what happened.”
A smile caught her by surprise. She hadn’t felt like smiling in…forever, it seemed.
“What’s so funny?” he asked.
She shook her head. “You are.” When he frowned, she held up one hand, palm up. “I just mean you’re centuries old, you’re a warrior—with a mighty sword, for crying out loud—and to hear you say ‘coulda-shoulda-woulda’ struck my funny bone. That’s all.”
“You know I’m right.”
“Knowing,” she said with a finger tapping her forehead, “and knowing,” she went on with two fingers over her heart, “are two different things.”
“Can’t argue with you on that one.” He reached for his sword and the sharpening stone he always left on the end table.
The key turned in the front door. Kimber and Aodhán both jumped up, he with his sword gripped tight in his right hand, instantly ready for battle.
Duncan walked in. He closed and locked the door behind him and quirked a brow at them. “You think zombies are going to have a key?”
“Shut up.” Aodhán sat back down and started sharpening his sword.
“Kimber,” Duncan said in greeting. He walked over and dropped down onto the end of the sofa. His dark hair was mussed, slight curls flopping onto his forehead. A tire iron hung from his belt loop.
Whatever the infection was that turned humans into zombies, it didn’t work on vampires, at least not from the aspect of turning them into shuffling undead. But it was just as deadly to vampires as it was to humankind, causing the infected vamp to die a horrible and agonizing true death. So they couldn’t use their teeth as a weapon like they would under other circumstances. They’d had to improvise, just like everyone else.
She glanced at Aodhán. He’d been pretty close-mouthed about whether the fey could get infected. She had a feeling they could, or maybe they didn’t know yet. When the Outbreak happened, most fey returned to their own realm, refusing entry to anyone not fey, leaving humans to deal with the problem or be overtaken by it.
At least vampires hadn’t completely abandoned them. Of course, that was probably because humans were their preferred food source. She turned her attention to Duncan and tried to ignore how delicious he looked. And realized that since he was here it meant it was dark outside. Already? Damn it.
“I hate this.” Kimber folded her arms across her chest. “Damned windows all taped up. We don’t know what freaking time it is anymore. We only know that it’s dark because you show up.” Her voice cracked. She cupped her hands around her elbows, not sure how much more of this she could take. It felt like the least little thing would shatter her beyond repair. She needed a good scream. Which she couldn’t have.
The next best thing would be a good cry. Which she wouldn’t do, especially in front of Duncan. She didn’t want him thinking she was weak. And immediately she grew irritated at herself for caring one way or the other what he thought. She didn’t base her choices on what Duncan would think. This wasn’t a What-Would-Duncan-Do world. She let loose a growl of frustration.
“Easy,” Duncan murmured.
She took a deep breath and held it several seconds. “I’m all right,” she finally said. She sat back down and looked at him. “Did you have any trouble getting here?”
He shook his head. “The area’s quiet. For the moment. We must be in between waves.”
Waves of zombies. Hordes. Herds. Gaggles. She stared at their blacked-out windows. She’d heard the living dead referred to in all of those ways, first in graphic novels, never really dreaming one day they would be a reality.
Well, reality sucked.
